Calasetta
Enlarged view
Calasetta
is a small town of Sant'Antioco island, placed in the north-west coast, just in front of San Pietro island.
A large part of the economy of this small center is based on fishing and agriculture, but tourism has a crucial importance during summer.
From the little commercial
port
is possible to take ships to reach Carloforte or industrial area of Portovesme, near Portoscuso. In the touristic port is also possible to rent a boat for trips around the island.
In the old part of Calasetta is possible to visit S.Maurizio church (Barocco style) and the
Town Hall
.
From Town Hall Square begins
via Roma
, where is amazing to have some shopping and refreshments inside the various and pretty handmade shops, characteristic restaurants and bars.
On the highest top of the town is placed the
Spanish Tower
, dated XVII century, which, as all others sardinian towers, was built to protect the island from north-africans pirates. The road that reach the tower continues to three enchanted beaches; the first is named
"Sotto Torre"
, the next is
"Le Saline"
beach and finally there is the fine
"Spiaggia Grande"
beach.
Calasetta is appreciated for holidays. Not only sea, but happenings, live music and gastronomy: in town and near there are a lot of restaurants, bars, wineries and discos for all kind of tastes!
